Dearest families,
Happy 1st day of school!! I hope your children had a fantastic first day and I hope the traffic during pick-up time was manageable! Thank you for being so flexible and understanding during our first week open as we knock out those kinks and fix certain structures to make everything smoother for our community!
Here are the updates:
1. Today your child had given a packet (not in the usual correspondence folder) that included the following documents attached below. This document has a few items:
Project description of our 1st mini-project "Images"
Fieldwork description to the San Diego Museum of Art on 9/23/14
Permission Slip to the fieldwork
Please make sure the permission slip to the fieldwork is turned in by 9/9 to ensure we have proper lunches ordered and carpool assigned.
If you would like to volunteer to be a parent chaperone on our trip, either fill out the bottom portion on the fieldwork description OR complete the Room 127 Chaperone Sign Up on this link.
*If you would like to volunteer, please ensure that all your volunteer driver information and forms are signed and turned into the front desk with Susan Battituz.
2. Today the students had a tour of the school and learned more about their classroom, classmates and community. We shared our hopes & dreams for the school year today, discussed how to take care of supplies, built some amazing tin-foil sculptures, and shared the importance of literacy.
3. If you haven't turned in your correspondence folder, please make sure to bring it by Thursday, September 5th to the class!
4. Your child was given a task to write me a letter about themselves! Please remind your child to turn this in by Thursday, September 5th as well! Thank you!
5. Please ensure your child has a healthy snack packed for recess time. This will help their focus on classroom activities. We noticed, as a whole staff, that there was an abundance of nuts brought to campus in children's snacks/lunches. Although we are not a nut-free campus, we would like to remind families to try other healthy snack options for their children as we have some severe allergies on campus and want to ensure the safety of all our children.
6. Please make sure your child waits on the playground until I pick them up for school at 8:15 am. The children will line up in front of the two double doors near the water fountains and restrooms prior to entering into the classroom. (I showed them the location today, so I hope they remember.)
7. All 4th/5th grade families will turn left to pick their children up after school instead of following the regular HTe traffic. I know we are locked up with HTM and HTH parents. We are working with the directors/staff at HTM & HTH to reduce this backup. Thank you for your patience as we sort this out!
We also noticed that our list was incorrect due to PowerSchool information. We will have this sorted out and appreciate your patience in this matter with showing IDs. Additionally, we ask parents to remain in their car (if you are in the loading zone) so that we can ensure a swift pick-up.
I apologize for such a long email but hope it was useful and clear! Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks again for the 1st day and I appreciate all your support!
Best,
Kim C.
