Dearest families,

Hope you had a lovely weekend! Here are a few updates:

1. Today your child was sent home their colored correspondence folder. Inside you will find the book borrowing sheet which will outline the norms for checking out books in our classroom library. Please review this with your child and return this signed to our class.

2. Today your child was assigned an extension! This is due tomorrow. Below are the directions:

Sketch Journal Assignment #1: My Images

Due date: Tuesday, September 9th, 2014

*Assignment will be shared in class.

1. Sketch an image in your journal or bring in a photo of an image that represents you.

2. Write a paragraph explaining why this image represents you. (5 sentences minimum)

Questions to help guide your thinking:

- What is a picture or item that defines who I am? Why does it represent who I am?

- What is something that is very special to me? Why is it special?

- Does your family celebrate or recognize certain traditions?

3. This week we are getting into our Images project! We began today by reading and analyzing George Ella Lyon's poem, "Where I'm From." We highlighted and annotated some notes. The rest of the week is dedicated to writing the first draft of our own poem. We will also begin illustrating our artwork for our images project.

4. Everyday we try to celebrate our friends and show respect for their acts of kindness and perseverance. Check out our news & updates on our digital portfolio.

5. Permission slips to our fieldwork to the Museum of Art in San Diego are due TOMORROW. Please turn them in asap so that we can have all lunches and carpool organized for the kids. If you need another permission slip form, please click on this link.

Thanks for your support and let me know if you have any questions!

Best,

Ms.Kim
