Room 127: Friendly Updates

Dearest families,

Happy 3rd week of school! I hope you had a lovely weekend.​ Here are the updates for this week:

1. We have a fieldwork coming up on the 23rd of September from 9:00-2:00pm to the Museum of Art in San Diego. Thank you for turning in your permission slips.

If you would like to volunteer to be a parent chaperone on our trip, either fill out the bottom portion on the fieldwork description OR complete the Room 127 Chaperone Sign Up on this link.

*If you would like to volunteer, please ensure that all your volunteer driver information and forms are signed and turned into the front desk with Susan Battituz.

2. Every week I update my 4th grade Digital Porfolio to keep you posted on things happening in school and in class. Please check out our news & updates blog to learn about our celebrations, OR look on our parent resource page for important documents or ways you can help your child at home.

4. Our Back to School Night is on 9/18 from​ 6:30pm-8:00. We will begin in the HTe Commons then join together​. in Room 127. We will invite all parents to join us to review expectations for students, extensions, digital portfolio, student-led conferences, home visits and other facets of our year.

6. This week we will be creating the second draft of our artwork. We have also started looking at measurement with inches, centimeters, and millimeters. We will be looking at other forms of measurement this week as well. Additionally, we will be revising and creating the second draft of our poems. We will continue to read Wonder and engage in independent reading time. Thus far, we have read for 32 minutes continuously with focus as a whole class.

8. We will have a Family Morning Meeting on 10/2 from 7:00-8:00 in Room 127. Come to our first family morning meeting to learn about what's happening in class and other ways you can support your child at home!

​9. Your child was sent home with a few extensions tonight:

• PROJECT WORK: Due tomorrow. If your child didn't finish their project work in class, they were asked to take home their 2nd draft artwork to illustrate​​ and reflect on the improvements.

• REFLECTION JOURNAL: Due tomorrow. If your child didn't finish their reflection journal, they were asked to bring their journal home to write about their day. Please write at least half a page and include the date.​

• SKETCH JOURNAL: Due date: Wednesday, September 17th *Assignment will be shared in class

• Use centimeters and inches to measure an object in your house.

• Sketch the object in your house that you chose to measure and label its sides with both centimeters and inches. (- Be clear about labeling the length, width and/or height. of the object.)

• * CHALLENGE: What is the length, width and/or height in millimeters?
