Dearest families,

Happy weekend! The kids did amazing this past week and really worked hard together! I am so proud of their efforts!

Here are some updates:

1. We have a fieldwork coming up on the 23rd of September from 9:00-2:00pm to the Museum of Art in San Diego. Here is a link to the parent chaperone sheet for the trip. It is also shown below. If you are a chaperone for this trip, please make sure you arrive to school on time at 9:15am to load the children in your car. I would recommend arriving at 9:00am to park and check in. We have man more chaperones than I had planned for, I have asked a few parents to carpool together. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns!

Chaperones,

Please check in at the front desk at HTe prior to your departure. You may park your vehicles in the loading zone for a quick loading and unloading of children from our classroom. Make sure to pack a lunch and if you’d like, bring a blanket as we will be eating on the grass. We will be parking behind the Museum of Photographic Arts. I look forward to our trip together!

2. Every week I update my 4th grade Digital Porfolio,

http://mskimcawkwell.wix.com/htefourthgrade, to keep you posted on things happening in school and in class. Please check out our news & updates blog to learn about our celebrations, OR look on our parent resource page for important documents or ways you can help your child at home.

3. Thank you for an amazing Back to School Night! If you weren't able to attend, here is a link to the documents that were handed out.

4. This past week we engaged in creating the second draft of our images and poems. We also received our Chrome Books where we published our writing and began creating our digital portfolios. We also had 3rd and 1st grade buddies where we supported their projects. We continued to analyze characters through our read aloud Wonder and we studied area and perimeter. The kids read independently for 42 minutes straight and many students have already been tested in their reading comprehension. Lastly, we looked at powerful sentences and adjectives and began writing our own creative stories. Lots and lots to celebrate!

5. Scholastic catalogs are due September 30th. Acceptable forms of payment are mail in checks or credit cards online ONLY. Please do not send cash with your order form. To learn more about ordering Scholastic books, please visit this link.

6. We will have a Family Morning Meeting on 10/2 from 7:00-8:00 in Room 127. Come to our first family morning meeting to learn about what's happening in class and other ways you can support your child at home! Sign up on this link to let us know if you are attending!

7. We will have Student-Led Conferences from 10/20-10/24. 10/21-10/24 are short days, which means students will be released at 12:45 those days. If you would like to learn more about SLCs and/or sign up for an SLC time, please visit this link.

8. We will have a 4th/5th grade Attitude of Gratitude Fall Potluck on November 20th from 5:30-6:30 in the HTeNC Commons. Please join us to this night to connect and celebrate with other families. Sign up sheets for potluck items will be sent out shortly!

Have a great weekend and thank you again for a great start to a new year!

Best,

Kim C.
