How do Forces of Nature & Environment

Impact our Local Habitats?

Written By Alan

My name is Alan and I am a second grader at HTe North County. My class went to clean up Carlsbad Beach and noticed lots of trash! We decided to create a project about our dilemma. The essential question for our project was, "How do forces of nature and environment our local habitats?" We learned how trash and pollution impact the animals that live in our local habitats.

Please read my research below to learn more about our project and how you can help protect our local habitats.

Saving a Stingray

I was at my house at the beach and it was a rainy day. Something washed up shore! I quickly ran over to it. It had a curvy fin, a tail, and when I lifted it up I saw its nose and mouth underneath. I knew right away it was a stingray! The stingray is a part of the shark family. It lives on the bottom of the ocean. It had ridden a wave up to the beach and was dieing! The stingray could only breathe a little without water, so I went to get a bucket full of water. I poured the water on the stingray and I picked up the stingray from the bottom. I had to pick it up from the bottom so it doesn’t sting me with it’s venomous tail.

I put the stingray in a huge saltwater fish tank in my house. I studied stingrays to know how to take care of them. I noticed the stingray was threatened because I saw his skin looked more black from pollution. It looked like it was from an oil spill. I went to get soap and I scrubbed the stingray clean.

It was time to say goodbye to the stingray. I grabbed the big tank and I poured the water out in the ocean. The stingray swam away. I had to let him go. I learned that pollution and oil spills can kill fish and stingrays. We need to stop polluting the air and ocean!
