We had an amazing exhibition this week on the 19th! The Coffee House exhibition was a success as all the students showed great cofidence in reading their creative stories to their audience.

Fourteenth Week of HTe

November 18th-21st

This week we visited the Sunrise Senior Center to perform a Talent Show for the seniors. The kids sang beautifully and showed great care and perseverance in their efforts.

 

We also completed our care packages for the Meals on Wheels Organization and we sorted our donations for the Ronald McDonald Charity House. We received about 100 donations for both charities! Thank you for your support!

This week we had our 1st HTe beach clean up day at Carlsbad State Beach! This successful event was hosted by I Love a Clean San Diego Organization. With the help of amazing parent chaperones, the students collected and sorted pieces of trash/recycling at the Robert Frazee Beach.

Fifth week of HTe

September 23-27 2013

 

Bright spots! This week we got to begin a new project for Dash, our African Spurred Tortoise. We are answering the question,"How can we create a safe and comfortable habitat for Dash?" We began by writing a letter to Dash to ask questions, we jigsawed articles about tortoises and then drew blueprints for Dash's home. We also got critiques from our high school buddies and wrote creative narratives about Dash! 

 

In math, we have been practicing addition! We are building our addition knowledge to get from one digit addition, to two digit addition and finally to three digit addition! We learned a new card game called, More or Less. Try it at home to practice your addition facts!

 

Lastly, we have been practicing for exhibition and getting our garden boxes ready! They were finally placed throughout the school this week and already others have commented on how much they add color to our school!

September 16-20 2013

 

Bright spot 9/20 All students in 2nd grade shared at our bi-weekly community meeting! They presented to the whole school a HTe Caring Song, a comedy play and a fun game to play at recess time. I was so proud to see all the students presenting with such confidence!

 

Additionally, the students worked on teambuilding in groups! We discussed what it meant to work as a group and practiced building paper cup towers together. The activity was difficult, but we persevered as a group to create beautiful sculptures!

This week we created our hopes & dreams and began our classroom norms for our room. We also practiced critique using Ron Berger's video of Austin's Butterfly and we discussed fierce wonderings, our passions and completed our "Where I'm From" 1st draft poems.

On Friday, our high school buddies came to interview us. They will be building an outdoor learning area for us and will use our ideas to construct the space.
