How do Forces of Nature & Environment

Impact our Local Habitats?

Written By Kelton

My name is Kelton and I am a second grader at HTe North County. My class went to clean up Carlsbad Beach and noticed lots of trash! We decided to create a project about our dilemma. The essential question for our project was, "How do forces of nature and environment our local habitats?" We learned how trash and pollution impact the animals that live in our local habitats.

Please read my research below to learn more about our project and how you can help protect our local habitats.

The Adventure of

The Great White Sharks

There once was a family of great white sharks that lived in the Pacific Ocean. There were four baby sharks, as big as humans. Some shark families have up to twelve babies. The sharks are very large, they can grow up to 44 feet. One day, they went to the shallow end of the ocean to prey on sea lions. The oldest son went with the mom to get some food.

When they were swimming to the beach, they saw a large oval floating above their heads. They thought it was a sea lion and the mom swam up to bite it. But it wasn’t a sea lion, it was a piece of metal!

The son swam back home and told his dad, “Mom ate a piece of metal.” After awhile, the metal started to poison the mom from her belly. The metal stayed in her belly for a few years. She started to feel worse until one day she died. The dad and the kids felt bad.

We can stop people throwing trash into the ocean by putting signs up. It is important to stop throwing trash into the ocean because soon it will be a big trash can in the water. Animals think that trash is food and they will eat it.
